PROJECT PHASES
Phase 1A

• There are single lane closures on NB and SB I-29 while median barriers are installed on the passing lane shoulders. Traffic is maintained on the driving lanes while passing lanes are closed.
• Traffic shifts to the passing lanes while existing median barriers from the 2007 Surcharge Project are adjusted and lengthened on the driving lane shoulders.

Phase 1B

• Both lanes of I-29 remain open while bridge work is completed in the median and along the shoulders of I-29.
• The 52nd Ave interchange and crossroad continue to operate in their existing configuration.

Phase 2A

• Construction continues on the 52nd Ave structures and starts on new 52nd Ave crossroad. The NW loop ramp gets partially constructed and the NE and NW ramps are constructed.
• Single lane closures are in place on the NB and SB I-29 roadways in the area of the ramp tapers. Traffic is maintained in the passing lanes while the driving lanes are closed.
• The 52nd Ave interchange and crossroad continues to operate in their existing configuration.

Phase 2B

• Construction continues on the 52nd Ave structures and the new 52nd Ave crossroad. The existing NE and NW ramps are being removed.
• Single lane closure on I-29.
• SB I-29 to 52nd Ave will use the NW ramp to access existing 52nd Ave.
• ND I-29 to 52nd Ave will use the SE ramp to access existing 52nd Ave.
• Traffic on 52nd Ave continues using the existing roadway.
• 52nd Ave to NB I-29 will use a temporary connection to the new NE ramp.
• 52nd Ave to SB I-29 will use the existing SW ramp.

Phase 3

• Crews complete construction on the 52nd Ave structures and on the driving lanes for the new 52nd Ave crossroad between 38th Street and 31st Street (from station 1044 to 1073). Construction of the NW loop ramp continues.
• A single lane closure is in place on the NB & SB I-29 roadways. Traffic is maintained in the passing lane while the driving lane is closed.
• SB I-29 to 52nd Ave uses the new NW ramp and a temporary connection to the existing 52nd Ave.
• NB I-29 to 52nd Ave uses the existing SE ramp to access existing 52nd Ave.
• Traffic on 52nd Ave continues to use the existing roadway.
• 52nd Ave to NB I-29 uses a temporary ramp connection to the new NE ramp.
• 52nd Ave to SB I-29 uses the existing SW ramp.

Phase 4A

• Crews construct temporary connections from existing to new 52nd Ave, temporary connection to the NW loop ramp, and a temporary connection from NB I-29 to the existing SE ramp.
• Both lanes of NB and SB I-29 remain open.
• SB I-29 to 52nd Ave uses the new NW ramp and a temporary connection to the existing 52nd Ave.
• NB I-29 to 52nd Ave uses the existing SE ramp to access existing 52nd Ave.
• Traffic on 52nd Ave continues to use the existing roadway.
• 52nd Ave to NB I-29 uses a temporary ramp connection to the new NE ramp.
• 52nd Ave to SB I-29 uses the existing SW ramp.

Phase 4B

• Construction continues on portions of the 52nd Ave crossroad. The SW and SE ramps are constructed. A portion of the SE frontage road (from station 0 to 31) is reconstructed. Crews remove the existing 52nd Ave structures and portions of the existing 52nd Ave crossroads.
• Single lane closures on NB and SB I-29.
  
• SB I-29 to 52nd Ave uses the new NW ramp to the new 52nd Ave.
• NB I-29 to 52nd Ave uses the temporary ramp connection to the existing SE ramp to a temporary connection to the new 52nd Ave.
• Traffic on 52nd Ave starts using the new roadway between 38th Street and 31st Street (from station 1044 to 1073).
• WB 52nd Ave to NB 29 uses the new NE ramp.
• EB 52nd Ave to NB 29 uses a temporary ramp connection to the new NE ramp.
• EB 52nd Ave to SB 29 uses a temporary connection to the new NW loop ramp.
• WB 52nd Ave to SB 29 uses the new NW loop ramp.

Phase 5

• Construction of the 52nd Ave crossroad gets completed. The remaining portion of the SE frontage road (from station 31 to 52nd Ave) is constructed and connected with 52nd Ave. Removal of the existing 52nd Ave crossroad is completed. The SE loop ramp is constructed.
• A single lane closure is in place on NB I-29. Traffic is maintained on the passing lane while the driving lane is closed.
• Both lanes of SB I-29 remain open.
• SB I-29 to 52nd Ave uses the new NW ramp to the new 52nd Ave.
• NB I-29 to 52nd Ave uses the new SE ramp to the new 52nd Ave.
• Traffic on 52nd Ave uses the new roadway.
• WB 52nd Ave to NB I-29 uses the new NE ramp.
• EB 52nd Ave to NB I-29 uses a temporary ramp connection to the new NE ramp.
• EB 52nd Ave to SB I-29 uses the new SW ramp.
  
• WB 52nd Ave to SB I-29 uses the new NW loop ramp.
